‘Irreversible: Straight Cut’
The legendary psychological thriller of Gaspar Noé, “Irreversible: Straight Cut” is on the big screen again. Starring the iconic duo of Monica Belucci and Vincent Cassel, the drama follows two men looking for revenge after the violent rape of a girlfriend. Unlike its original 2002 version that shows events in reverse order, the “straight cut” puts them chronologically. Gaspar’s unparalleled style with terrifying red light and high-frequency noise has remained. The film sparked controversy upon release, receiving polarizing reviews. Though praised for its directorial work and moral message, the drama was also criticized for its extremely graphic portrayal of violence — during its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, 200 viewers left the screening. The film will be screened in French with English and Ukrainian subtitles.
“Irreversible: Straight Cut.” Kino 42 (11B Kostiantynivska St.) Feb. 18-24. Hr 120. Check screenings and get tickets at www.bit.ly/irreversible42
