Iskpa festival

The new and promising electronic music festival Ickpa (pronounced “Iskra” which means “spark” in Ukrainian) is about to kick off this weekend, featuring more than 40 DJs who will perform non-stop for three days. Organized by the renowned Georgian club Bassiani, this festival aims to build a cultural bridge between the West and the emerging electronic scenes of post-Soviet countries. The lineup includes Detroit techno pioneer Jeff Mills, Bassiani residents DVS1 and Hector Oaks, Berlin underground rebel MCMLXXXV. Ukrainian performers include star DJs such as Nastia who will open the festival, Berghain resident Etapp Kyle, local techno pioneer Stanislav Tolkachev and more.

The Naked Room gallery’s new exhibition “Pets’ Corner” presents works by Ukrainian artist and journalist Yevgenia Belorusets.

‘Pets’ Corner’ exhibition

The combination of film photographs and prose by Ukrainian artist and journalist Yevgenia Belorusets will be presented at Kyiv’s avant-garde gallery The Naked Room. In her pieces, the artist explores interactions between humans and animals, who are “doomed to be objects of human activity, observation and study.” Belorusets took the exhibited photos while researching her own study “A series of lectures on the modern life of animals.”

Amelie Lens, Farrago, Daria Kolosova

Electronic music party Laut (means “loud” in German), a collaboration between German and Ukrainian promoters, will shake the walls of renovated Platform factory on July 24. The lineup is headlined by two Belgian techno DJs, Amelie Lens and Farrago. Other acts featured are Ukrainian DJs Daria Kolosova and Xenia.

Kyiv’s Kooperativ co-working space is holding Urban Art Weekend, a two-day get-together for urbanism enthusiasts featuring art and discussions, on July 24-25. (URBAN ART WEEKEND)

Urban Art Weekend

The Kooperativ co-working space, which aims to inspire creativity and innovation in Kyiv, will hold a two-day art exhibition about urban studies and the environment. Featuring pieces by Ukrainian artists, the exhibition will change throughout the weekend — the pieces will be moved around on the Kooperativ’s rooftop. The event will also arrange public talks by experts in Ukrainian about problematic construction in Kyiv and ecological issues in Ukrainian urban areas.
