New club opening
Kyiv’s electronic music scene welcomes a new venue, Arsenal XXII. Located in one of the oldest and biggest former factories in the city, the club will hold its grand opening on July 9. Curated by Ukrainian DJ and Berghain resident Etapp Kyle, the party will feature German techno duo Fjaak Ukrainian DJ Daria Kolosova and Etapp Kyle himself. Arsenal XXII aims to not only bring the big names of the EDM world but also help visitors discover unknown gems. “We want Arsenal XXII to become a place where guests will always enjoy dancing, regardless of whether they are familiar with the artist’s work or not,” the organizers said.

Belarusian art day
During Belarusian art day, held at the quiet Kyiv Mohyla Academy’s yard, the visitors will enjoy literary readings, photo exhibit “Belarus That Woke Up” and illustrations by Ukrainian artist Oleksandr Grekhov – all dedicated to the widespread protests in Belarus in response to the rigged presidential election in August 2020. The music program features Belarusian performers such as ethnic electronic duo Shuma and bands Naka Piano with Konstantin Hot and RSP.

Âme and Appolonia
Outdoor entertainment venue Kureni continues to throw parties every weekend in July. This time, Kureni is bringing German house and techno duo Âme and French trio Appolonia, known for their groovy underground house music. “We hope that you will be in a really good mood for the next weekend in Kureni because a real dance marathon is waiting for us,” the organizers said.

‘The Legend of the Pianist on the Ocean’
This Italian drama, directed by Giuseppe Tornatore in 1998, depicts the life of a boy who was found in a box of lemons on an ocean liner in 1900. The boy, who never went ashore, became a true virtuoso musician, playing in a restaurant orchestra on the liner. The first English-language film in Tornatore’s directorial career, “The Legend of the Pianist on the Ocean,” won many accolades, including the U.S. Golden Globe for best original score and the Italian Golden Globe for best screenplay. The screenings will be in English with Ukrainian subtitles.
