Vsi Svoi – Kyiv Market

May 30 marks Kyiv’s 1539th birthday, and Vsi Svoi invites the capital’s residents and guests to celebrate. Its “Kyiv Market” hosted on the weekend of May 29-30 will feature all things Kyiv — clothes, souvenirs, food, drinks and music. The venue’s outside terraces offer picturesque views and make a great location for some weekend leisure.

Don’t miss the last opportunity to attend a personal exhibition by one of Ukraine’s most celebrated contemporary artists Ivan Marchuk, running at Kyiv History Museum through May 23.

Ivan Marchuk’s ‘I Am’ exhibition

The Kyiv History Museum is celebrating one of Ukraine’s most renowned contemporary artists, Ivan Marchuk, with his personal exhibition titled “I Am.” he is best known for creating an art technique called “pliontanism,” which uses detailed strokes making an impression of weaving into each other. Having painted more than 5,000 pieces, Marchuk was listed among the Top 100 living geniuses by UK newspaper The Telegraph in 2007. The museum has brought together 70 of the artist’s paintings including artworks displayed for the first time and those from private collections and Ukrainian museums.

50th Molodist Kyiv International Film Festival

Ukraine’s oldest film festival, Molodist, is hitting a milestone this year: 50 years of promoting cinema in Kyiv. The 50th Molodist Kyiv International Film Festival will present nearly 200 Ukrainian and foreign films, screened in competition and non-competition blocks. The program, as usual, includes special themed blocks, “Sunny Bunny” featuring pictures about LGBTQ and “Molodist Teen Screen” with films for 10-14-year-olds. All screenings will provide English subtitles.

‘Serge Lifar. The Flight of Icarus’

The National Museum of History is marking 116 years since the birth of Ukrainian ballet dancer Serge Lifar, a performer of the Paris Grand Opera and one of the greatest male ballet dancers of the 20th century. Its exhibit, “Serge Lifar. The Flight of Icarus,” features Lifar’s ballet costumes, archive photographs, and personal letters with family and friends in a 1,500-piece collection.
