The number of COVID-19 cases has been surging. However, the entertainment industry continues to work under the government’s measures that include social distancing and a limited number of attendees. ‘Sketches of the Monumental’

Kyiv’s avant-garde gallery The Naked Room is presenting a new exhibition that will exclusively feature some never-before-seen pieces of art. “Sketches of the Monumental” is a celebration of mosaics, a widely-popular art form in 1960-1980s in Ukraine that adorns buildings in nearly all Ukrainian cities and towns. It was this 20-year-period under the Soviet Union that in many ways defined the visual identity of urban settlements in Ukraine. The exhibition will offer a look at sketches, collages and drawings by 11 Ukrainian artists that served as the foundation for future mosaics across the country.

“Sketches of The Monumental.” The Naked Room (21 Reitarska St.) Nov. 13 – 29. 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. Free.

‘From Action to Performative Sculpture: Maria Kulikovska’

The new exhibition at Shcherbenko Art Center tracks the creative path of contemporary Ukrainian artist Maria Kulikovska. Through her pieces, the artist mostly focuses on studying political conflicts in Ukraine and a woman’s place in society. To convey her views and messages, Kulikovska often chooses performative art. “From Action to Performative Sculpture” will exhibit photographs, videos and sketches that were all part of the creative process behind her performances and their presentations. “It is a form of presentation of the completed work and an attempt to analyze whether it has yielded results, whether society needs it,” Kulikovska says in the exhibition’s description.
