‘Idiot Prayer: Nick Cave Alone at Alexandra Palace’

The coronavirus pandemic has put on hold most concerts all around the globe. But it hasn’t stopped Australian rock legend Nick Cave from holding a great music show at the Alexandra Palace in London. This time, however, Cave did not perform in front of thousands of viewers: His only audience was Irish cinematographer Robbie Ryan who filmed the whole act. Called “Idiot Prayer: Nick Cave Alone at Alexandra Palace,” the concert film displays Cave playing the piano and performing his greatest hits for over 80 minutes. The show was broadcast live in July and released in cinemas worldwide on Nov. 5. Kyiv citizens will get a chance to hear Cave’s outstanding performance on Nov. 7-11.

Old Fashioned Band at Vsi Svoi 

This Saturday gives a great chance to enjoy probably the last outdoor jazz music show of the year. On Nov. 7, local cover group Old Fashioned Band will perform the greatest hits of Stevie Wonder, Wild Cherry, James Brown and other world-known performers. The music show is part of the two-day Alcohol Market by Vsi Svoi, a company that promotes and sells Ukrainian-made products of various brands. Visitors to the market can savor a variety of wine, craft beer, cider, liquor and appetizers by Ukrainian manufacturers, as well as enjoy the night listening to the rhythms of live jazz and funk music. All visitors will be asked to wear masks and maintain social distance.

‘Body Worlds: Animals Inside Out’

One of the world’s most fascinating traveling exhibitions, “Body Worlds,” returns to Kyiv with a new project “Animals Inside Out.” As the name of the exhibition hints, it displays bodies of different animals in various conditions. “Body Worlds: Animals Inside Out” is a collection of plastinated, flayed corpses of animals that aims to educate people about the anatomy of animals. The first “Body Worlds” exhibition was displayed in Japan in 1995. It was launched by German anatomist Gunther Von Hagens who invented the technique to preserve bodies. The current exhibition “Animals Inside Out” was established in 2010 and has immediately become popular worldwide. It features bodies of over 100 different animals, including a tiny guinea pig and a five-meter tall giraffe. In Kyiv, it will be displayed at the VDNH exposition center until Jan. 31, 2021.

‘The Witches’

There is nothing like watching a fun movie on a cold, gloomy November night. Especially if it’s a new film by iconic U.S. director Robert Zemeckis, best known for the “Back to the Future” movies. Zemeckis’ “The Witches” is a dark fantasy comedy film that portrays a young boy and his grandmother who accidentally run into a group of witches. The movie is the second adaptation of the novel under the same title by British author Roald Dahl. It stars acclaimed U.S. actresses Anne Hathaway and Octavia Spencer along with actor Stanley Tucci. “The Witches” will be screened at Kyiv’s Zhovten and Multiplex cinemas in English on Nov. 7-11.
