President Viktor Yanukovych has been the butt of many jokes in the past couple of weeks because of the visitors he has been receiving. On June 26, he received a Hawaiian princess in Kyiv and the chief of a Native American tribe, while on July 2 he met with Britain’s Prince Michael of Kent.
The ongoing joke is that the president meets with royalty more often than he does with top members of the political opposition. His last meeting with the leader of Batkivshchyna took place on June 19. The other two opposition leaders, Vitali Klitschko and Oleh Tiahnybok, refused to join their colleague from the opposition because the president insisted on a meeting at his office.
