While President Viktor Yanukovych continues to insist that there is no legal basis for releasing Yulia Tymoshenko from prison, the ex-prime minister released a statement on Oct. 4, saying that she agrees to go to Germany for medical treatment.
The ball appears to be firmly now in Yanukovych’s court. European Union
leaders say that Tymoshenko’s freedom is an essential precondition for
Ukraine to sign an association and trade agreement with the 28-nation
bloc.
