NEWS ITEM: Oligarch Rinat Akhmetov, Ukraine’s richest man, has paid 200 million euros for Villa Les Cedres, a 190-year-old mansion in the French Riviera town of Saint-Jean Cap-Ferrat. The mansion used to be a home of King Leopold II of Belgium a century ago. Akhmetov’s pricy purchase sharply contrasts with the poor working conditions at some Ukrainian enterprises owned by the oligarch’s System Capital Management holding. For example, a power station belonging to the oligarch has not been paying its team of firefighters for months, citing an “energy market crisis.”
