NEWS ITEM: Ukraine’s Interior Minister Arsen Avakov went to the Vatican with President Volodymyr Zelensky to meet Pope Francis on Feb. 8. Zelensky and the pope talked about bringing peace to Ukraine, while Avakov was part of the official delegation. Holding the interior minister job for six years, Avakov’s proved incapable of pursuing high-profile cases. Meanwhile, video footage recorded by the Security Service of Ukraine in 2014 implicates him, his son, and his top allies in alleged corruption, which they denied. Avakov and his allies are also under investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine.
