NEWS ITEM: A South Korean court sentenced the country's ex-president Park Geun-hye to 24 years in prison on bribery and other charges. Park was the country's first democratically-elected president to be forced from office in 2017 over a corruption scandal that included her receiving millions of dollars in bribes from the country's biggest companies. In Brazil, former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva started serving a 12-year prison term after being convicted of corruption and money laundering.
