NEWS ITEM: The United States Coast Guard transferred two patrol boats to Ukraine on Sept. 27. An investigation by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in March found that the U.S. government has been trying to give Ukraine two patrol boats for years, but the Ukrainian side was stalling the transfer. The investigation alleged that the Ukrainian government could have been protecting the business interests of President Petro Poroshenko, whose plant Kuznya na Rybalskomu got an order to build ships for the military. The news that Ukraine would finally accept the boats arrived around the same time as Poroshenko announced the sale of his plant.
