NEWS ITEM: Iryna Vereshchuk, the candidate for Kyiv mayor from the Servant of the People party, said in a Sept. 2 interview that there’s no need to build a subway to the densely populated Troyeshchyna neighborhood in Kyiv. Vereshchuk called it “an expensive utopia” and offered to replace the metro there with high-speed trams. But something — either the traffic jams on the Pivnichny Bridge or the number of voters living in Troyeshchyna — made Vereshchuk change her mind. On Sept. 22, she said that she insists that the metro should reach Troyeshchyna.
