Participants attend a Dec. 17 rally in support of captured Ukrainian sailors and other Ukrainian prisoners, whose arrests in Russia and Crimea were politically-motivated.

Dozens of activists staged a rally on Dec. 17 on Maidan Nezalezhnosti in center Kyiv to demand the release of nearly 100 Ukrainian political prisoners still being held by Russia since its war on Ukraine started in 2014. Those include 24 Ukrainian sailors seized after Russia attacked Ukrainian naval vessels near the Kerch Strait on Nov. 25.
