A creepy metal room inside the Tax Service

Prev 01 6 Next

This surprising room is located on the fifth floor of the Tax Service headquarters. From the outside, it looks like a typical office, with a wooden door featuring number 511 on it.

Inside you walk a few steps along a short corridor before you hit
another door, a much more impressive one. About 20 centimeters thick,
it’s made of metal fully seal the odd room inside it.

The room
itself is fully metal and sound-proof. It feels rather like being stuck
in a metal box. There is a table made of see-through plastic, and six
chairs made of the same material.

The room was built by the
former Minister for Revenues and Duties Oleksandr Klymenko, who is now
wanted by Ukraine’s police. It’s still unclear who financed its
construction and how much it cost.

Yaryna Kluchkovska, the
spokeswoman for the Tax Service, says that the room is an architectural
wonder – it is not built into the support structure of the building, but
is instead suspended, and surrounded by an air cushion. It also has
independent air supply, and the smell is really unusual inside.

“The room gives you the creeps, it’s very uncomfortable to be inside when the door is closed,” says Kluchkovska.
