On Feb. 23, nearly 50 activists wearing protective outfits harkening to the coronavirus epidemic attended an”Anti-Avakovirus” rally in front of the President’s Office in Kyiv.
Participants demanded the firing of Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, who remains one of Ukraine’s most powerful people despite expectations that he would be fired with the ascension of President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Avakov, the longest-serving minister at six years in office, has been implicated in corruption scandals and has failed to deliver successfully investigate many high-profile criminal cases, including ones involving murders of activists and journalists.
