On April 26, 1986, the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant suffered a critical meltdown, triggering an explosion that would become the worst nuclear power plant disaster in history.

At midnight on the 35th anniversary of the accident, former Chornobyl residents, musicians, poets, journalists and others gathered near the power plant in the town of Pripyat to honor the fallen and commemorate the tragedy with art.

The annual event featured the poetry and music of performer collectives Evtepra and PRIPYAT.Pianos, the screening of the documentary film ‘Threshold’ by Rollan Serhienko, a picture gallery by photographer Denys Kopylov and the presentation of the digital icon ‘Chornobyl Savior’ by the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

The participants lit 35 candles for each year that has passed since the event that reshaped the region and displaced hundreds of thousands of people.
