One year after the novel coronavirus was first identified, many of the world’s countries are witnessing a new spike in COVID-19 infections. Many nations, particularly in Europe, have even been forced to impose new restrictions and full lockdowns to tame the spread.

Ukraine continues to report over 12,000 cases daily, one of the highest daily numbers on Europe. On Dec. 1, Kyiv alone identified a record-breaking 1,799 new cases and 31 people died in the previous 24 hours.

After three weeks of “weekend lockdown,” when non-essential businesses were forced to close on Saturday and Sunday, the government is now contemplating imposing a new nationwide lockdown during the winter holidays.

The Ukrainian government has yet to reveal the restrictions it is considering, but, in the streets of Ukraine’s capital, people are already preparing for a hard winter.
