The Meridian International school is a private privileged school with more than 300 students from 20 different countries, who are mostly children of foreign and Ukrainian businessmen, ambassadors, diplomats and entertainers living in Kyiv.

In July, pro-governmental Turkish media agency Anadolu accused Meridian of having ties with Fethullah Gulen, a Turkish preacher living in the U.S since 1998. Gulen is considered a most-wanted-terrorist in Turkey over accusations that he leads the terrorist organization FETÖ and organized the military coup attempt on July 15.
