About 100 people from the Belarusian diaspora and other Kyivans gathered in the center of the capital on Feb. 7 in honor of the International Day of Solidarity with Belarus.
Exiled Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya called on the international community to come out in support of Belarusians protesting the August presidential election. Belarus’s strongman, Alexander Lukashenko, declared victory amid widespread allegations of fraud. Thousands would be detained in the ensuing protests.
People in cities across Europe also gathered in solidarity.
