Belarusians parade through the streets of Minsk, on Oct. 25, 2020, the final day of an ultimatum set by the opposition for their embattled strongman leader to resign after months of mass protests against the rigged Aug. 9 presidential election. The opposition movement seeking to oust President Alexander Lukashenko, in power for 26 years but no longer considered to be legitimate by many Belarusians or the West, has kept up a wave of large-scale demonstrations every Sunday.
Charter 97, an opposition organization, called on Belarusians to resign until Lukashenko resigns, frees all political prisoners and sets a date for a new presidential election that will be free and fair.
