British royals, top officials greet Zelensky in London

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and First Lady Olena met with Britain’s Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and his wife, Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, at Buckingham Palace in central London on Oct. 7, 2020. This is the first audience that the president has had with members of the British royal family. UK Secretary for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs Dominic Raab also welcomed Zelensky to London. He will meet with UK Prime Minister

“Welcome to London, President Zelensky. Ukraine is a key ally for the UK with the UK-Ukraine trade at £1.5bn last year. By signing the Political, Free Trade & Strategic Partnership Agreement tomorrow, we will strengthen the historic ties between our two countries,” Raab posted on Twitter.

Reuters reported that Ukraine secured 1.25 billion pounds to acquire 8 military vessels. Also, according to Ukrinform, the United Kingdom will provide additional £5 million in humanitarian aid to Ukraine to fund the needs of internally displaced persons and communities in the occupied Donbas.
