Despite the unending coronavirus pandemic, Christmas is upon us. And, visually, nothing in Kyiv says Christmas better than the installation of the main Christmas tree — again this year at Sofiyivska Square in Kyiv. The traditional opening ceremony came on St. Nicholas Day, Dec. 19. Because of quarantine restrictions, organizers canceled the parade and concert. Still, a lot of people came to the ceremony. The Christmas tree on Sofiyivska Square is one of seven throughout Kyiv’s major suares. This year there will be no traditional food courts, but locations will have Christmas markets, art installations, photo zones, etc.
