Some 200 people attended several rallies to support Nadia Savchenko, a Ukrainian military pilot illegally imprisoned in Russia, that took place in Kyiv on March 8.

Nearly 100 people marched from the Defense Ministry to Russian embassy holding banners and shouting slogans in support of Savchenko. Another protest took place next to the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine office in Kyiv. Also, 20 activists had a rally in support of Savchenko at Maidan Nezalezhnosti.

Savchenko was captured in eastern Ukraine in the summer of 2014 and taken to Russia. She is charged with the murder of two Russian journalists. Prosecutors are demanding 23 years in prison for her.

On March 4, Savchenko renewed her hunger strike, this time refusing to drink water too, in protest of her 20-month detention in Russia.
