German Embassy celebrates anniversary of diplomatic ties with Ukraine

On Feb. 7, the German Embassy hosted a reception at their building near the Opera Hotel to celebrate the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Germany and Ukraine in early 1992, months after Ukraine got its independence from the Soviet Union.Ukraine's diplomatic elite as well as the country's first president, Leonid Kravchuk, came to greet German Ambassador to Ukraine Hans-Jurgen Heimsoeth on the occasion.“Germany is the second most important trade partner of Ukraine, and the most important investor – if you don't count Cyprus, which, as he pointed out, has a special role,” said the ambassador in his speech.Following speeches, the guests were entertained by the Vydubychi church choir, which combines Ukrainian cultural heritage with Orthodox spirituality.(Photos by Kostyantyn Chernichkin)
