On Aug. 18, people in the capital were treated to the sight of Ukrainian tanks and armored carriers roll through the streets as civilian and military aircraft streaked overhead.
But this was no military operation — it was a dress rehearsal for the Aug. 24 Kyiv military parade celebrating 30 years of Ukrainian independence.
The country’s Armed Forces and other security institutions said they would demonstrate over 400 vehicles, 100 aircraft, and over 5,000 troops of all uniformed branches of service, to demonstrate its growing power to stand up to Russia’s occupation of Donbas and Crimea.
