Around 300 members of the Belarusian diaspora in Ukraine and activists rallied to mark the passage of one year after massive protests erupted over the rigged presidential election in Belarus.

In August 2020, incumbent Alexander Lukashenko declared victory in the presidential election, which showed multiple signs of vote-rigging. Hundreds of thousands of Belarusians came out to the streets to protest. Lukashenko’s government responded with crackdowns, jailing and killing activists.

For their anniversary march in Kyiv, demonstrators walked from the Belarusian embassy to the Maidan Nezhalezhnosti, demanding Lukashenko’s arrest and freedom for all political prisoners in Belarus.
