On April 22, Ukraine suffered a defeat in an opening day game against Hungary at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship Division 1A in Kyiv.

Team Ukraine made a strong start at Kyiv’s Palace of Sports when Serhiy Kuzmik scored the first goal on the 13th minute of the first period. However, the team was unable to prevent a Hungary comeback in the second and third period of the Group A contest.

Ukraine held the first period with the score standing at 1-1, while team’s forward Nikita Butsenko saw Ukraine move into a 3-2 lead.

Hungary’s Andrew Sarauer, Keegan Dansereau and Janos Hari helped their team to win 5-3.

Oleksandr Savitsky, Ukraine’s head coach, praised the team’s efforts after the game. “We did our best, the teams battled like soldiers, but we lacked patience which resulted in some mistakes.”
