Ukraine marks 7th anniversary of Odesa fire, fights that took 48 lives

On May 2, Ukrainians marked the seventh anniversary of one of the bloodiest days in the modern history of Ukraine.

Throughout early 2014, street battles took place as armed Kremlin-supporting gangs and their Kyiv-supporting counterparts clashed in the historic Black Sea port city.

Six people lost their lives throughout weeks of prolonged violence but the worst incident occurred on May 2 when the city’s Trade Unions building caught fire amid the clashes. The resulting inferno claimed the lives of 42 people.
