Nearly a thousand individual entrepreneurs came to the Maidan Nezalezhnosti, or Independence Square, in Kyiv on Jan. 28 to demand that the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament, adopt bills protecting the simplified taxation system and abolish mandatory cash registers for individual entrepreneurs.
After protesting at the Independence Square, protesters headed to the Constitutional Court, the headquarters of the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine, and the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine.
On Dec. 1, 2020, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a bill postponing the introduction of cash registers for individual entrepreneurs for one year but protesters call to abolish it at all. Moreover, for some categories of entrepreneurs, cash registers became mandatory starting January 2021.
