In the COVID-19 era of remote work, the Kyiv Post is discovering that office space matters too — and now the newspaper, Ukraine’s Global Voice in the English language for 25 years, has its best newsroom ever. And the best part is that the newspaper no longer rents space, but owns it — courtesy of publisher Adnan Kivan.
The newspaper, starting Aug. 31, 2020, is housed on the second floor of 68 Zhylianska St., a 23-story high-rise of mainly residential apartments that replaced a couple of old businesses at this address. The 455 square meters has 46 workspaces and can expand up to 52 places, enough for the current size. The bright office was designed for maximum transparency and light, with glass-walled conference rooms, kitchen, and offices. Most of the staff members work in an open area. The desks are adjustable to allow people to stand or sit. The Kyiv Post has approximately 50 people working as journalists, website editors, sales & marketing managers, videographers, photographers, accountants, and designers.
The Kyiv Post has physically taken up space over its nearly 25 years of existence in the following locations:
• Founder Jed Sunden’s apartment;
• Lesia Ukrainka Boulevard in the Pechersk neighborhood;
• Bazhana Street on the left bank of the Dnipro River;
• Saksahanskoho Street near Peremohy Square;
• Prorizna Avenue near Zoloti Vorota;
• Novikonstantivovka Street in the Podil neighborhood;
• Pushkinska Street between Shevchenko Park and Lva Tolstoho and Khreshchatyk streets.
So this is the eighth office in 25 years.
Kivan, who owns the Kyiv Post, is one of Ukraine’s largest builders, with more than 70 buildings — malls, residential apartments, offices, mosques and a hotel. He owns the KADORR Group of companies based in Odesa. The Syrian native arrived in Ukraine 40 years ago to attend university in Odesa. Besides construction, his business interests have included metals trading and agricultural products.
The Kyiv Post is now located in the Holosiivksa District of Kyiv, between Pankivska and Tarasivska streets.
