Nearly 100 activists, including from Syndicate, a human rights association, rallied outside the Belarusian Embassy in Kyiv on Aug. 14 to support the victims of political repression in Belarus.
The activists brought Belarusian flags, flowers, and placards and demanded the Belarusian law enforcement agencies to stop the violence against Belarusians, who took to the streets of at least 33 cities to protest the results of the presidential election that took place on Aug. 9. Over 5,000 people were arrested in the first two days of the protest. Two deaths have been recorded.
The activists gathered outside the embassy in Kyiv to support the protesters as well as all those who aren’t actively participating in the protests in Minsk but live in Belarus and suffer under Alexander Lukashenko’s dictatorship, who has been the president of Belarus for 26 years and many believe rigged the latest election.
