The Leopolis Jazz Fest has started its five-day celebration of jazz in Lviv on June 27.
On its first day, the festival held performances by both young and legendary bands at two of the three Leopolis locations, all of them getting a full house of jazz fans.
The Leopolis Jazz Fest has been held in Lviv annually since 2011. It was known as Alfa Jazz until this year. Every year, around 100,000 visitors attend it.
The first day started off with shows on the Rynok Square stage: Peirani & Parisien Duo Art from France played contemporary jazz mixing accordion and saxophone sounds and were followed by Austrian chamber jazz band HI5, who played with contrasts combining slow and tender ballets with loud rockish jazz.
When it got darker, the anticipated show started on the main Eddie Rosner Stage in Bohdana Khmelnytskoho Park.
The legendary U.S. jazz musician Charles Lloyd and The Marvels band performed the avant-garde jazz charming the audience with the magic of a saxophone sounding.
He was followed by the headliner of the first day, British jazz-pop musician Jamie Cullum, who threw an energetic show along with his band making the attendees leave their seats to dance by the stage.
Many officials and celebrities visited the show at the Eddie Rosner Stage including Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi, Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelyan, singer Jamala and the lead singer of the Okean Elzy band Svyatoslav Vakarchuk.
The Leopolis Jazz Fest will hold events in Lviv every day by July 1. Check the program at www.leopolisjazz.com/en/2018/schedule
