Protesters demand freedom for Ukrainian soldier convicted in Italy (PHOTOS)

On Defender of Ukraine Day on Oct. 14,  nearly 30 people attended a rally in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kyiv to demand freedom for Vitaliy Markiv, who was sentenced to 24 years in prison in Italy for his alleged involvement in the 2014 killing of Italian photographer Andrea Rocchelli during Russia’s war in Donbas.

After the rally, activists marched to the Italian embassy, where they gathered signatures in support of Markiv and submitted a letter outlining their demands.
