Protests erupted across Ukraine on Feb. 23 after a court in Odesa sentenced a prominent civic activist Serhiy Sternenko to seven years in jail for kidnapping and illegal possession of weapons.
Protesters believe that the trial was rigged and Sternenko was sentenced over his nationalist and anti-government views
In Kyiv, some 2,000 people came to protest the sentencing of Sternenko near the Presidential Office building on Bankova Street. Twenty-four protesters were detained and several injured in clashes with police.
