Thousands of people from all over Ukraine gathered on Oct. 17 near Ukraine’s parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, to demand that parliament passed a law to strip the Ukrainian lawmakers of their immunity from prosecution.
The protesters also demanded the creation of anti-corruption courts and the adoption of a new electoral law to make the future elections, scheduled for 2016, more transparent.
Kyiv Oblast Police Chief Andriy Kryshchenko said that about 6,000 people attended the rally, which organizers dubbed an “all-Ukrainian gathering.”
Participants have already set up about 10 tents to rally overnight.
