DONETSK, Ukraine -- Early on Nov. 3, up to 100 people queued by the entrance to the Donetsk circus hoping to receive humanitarian aid from the richest Ukrainian and former city resident Rinat Akhmetov.

Akhmetov’s foundation is called “Pomozhem” (Helping) and distributes packages with food and sanitary goods to the most vulnerable residents of Donetsk, including pensioners and young children.

Packages for the elderly people include cereal, canned meat, sugar, tea, a candle and a pack of matches. Children’s aid includes baby food, diapers and juice. The children’s packages are especially popular with residents coming hours ahead of time to receive it.
