A few days after heavy snowfall hit Kyiv, Sri Lankan dancers visited the capital as part of a delegation of businessmen and diplomats from the South Asian country to promote tourism there.
Members of
the Dancers Guild dressed in bright ethnic outfits performed traditional Sri
Lankan dances at the tourism fair which opened at the International Exhibition Center on March 27. Visitors were treated to popular black Ceylon
tea and were given leaflets about resorts and hotels in Sri Lanka. The luckiest
ones received free foot massages given by an experienced ayurveda therapist.
Udayanga
Weeratunga, Sri Lanka’s ambassador to Russia, was on hand. He also studies in
Kyiv but is now based in Russia. Sri Lanka does not have an embassy in Ukraine
but plans to open a representative office in Kyiv due to the increasing flow of
tourists from Ukraine.
To
celebrate the 20th anniversary of bi-lateral diplomatic relations
between Sri Lanka and Ukraine, a gala concert and a photo exhibition will place
at the Ukrainian House on European Square on March 29, 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Entrance
to the Sri Lankan Night is free for to the public.
