Crowds of protesters marched through central Kyiv on Oct. 17 to demand better life standards and effective economic reforms from the country’s leadership.

The rally, joined by several thousand people, was organized by various Ukrainian trade unions from all across the country. Making stops on their way near the Verkhovna Rada and the Cabinet of Ministers building, the workers protested against constantly increasing public utilities and transport rates, and also demanded from the government to increase the minimum monthly wage to at least Hr 7,700 ($275) instead of the currently actual amount of Hr 3,500 ($125).

The rallies in Kyiv’s governmental block temporarily caused giant traffic jams in the center of Ukraine’s capital city.
