On May 8-9, Ukraine marked two holidays, both dedicated to the surrender of Nazi Germany in World War II.

Starting 2015, Ukraine has joined the rest of the world in marking May 8, Victory in Europe Day, as an international day of remembrance and reconciliation.

However, Ukraine also continues the tradition of celebrating Victory Day, a holiday established by the Soviet Union in 1945, on May 9.

This year on May 8-9, hundreds of people, including veterans and officials, flocked to the Park of Eternal Glory and the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II in Kyiv to lay flowers in remembrance of those who died during the war.

The youth organization of the pro-Kremlin political party Opposition Platform — For Life held an anti-fascist march on May 9.
