Ukraine ranks 21st at 2019 World Athletics Championships

The Ukrainian team has ranked 21st at the 2019 World Athletics Championships, a competition held on Sept. 27 – Oct. 6 in Doha, Qatar. The Ukrainian athletes won two silver medals at the contest.

The World Athletics Championships is a biannual event organized by the International Association of Athletics Federations, the world governing body for the sport of track and field athletics.

The representatives of over 200 countries participated in the latest edition of the contest featuring 49 athletic events.

The Ukrainian athletes competed in the hammer, discus and javelin throws, race walks, jumps, marathon and more.

The team’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh won a silver medal in the long jump, while Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk was second-best in the high jump.

According to the Athletics Federation of Ukraine, Mahuchikh, 18, made history by becoming the youngest medalist in the world championships in any discipline.

“It was something incredible! I even find it difficult to find words to describe these feelings,” Mahuchikh told the Athletics Federation of Ukraine after the contest.

In the medal table, the United States ranked first with a total of 29 medals, Kenya was second with 11 (five gold) and Jamaica finished third with 12 (three gold).

As for the placing table, the Ukrainian team ranked 10th there with 44 points. Apart from the two medals, the country had two fourth, three fifth, two sixth and one seventh results in its score.

The United States, Kenya and Jamaica kept their medal-table positions in the placing ranking.
