Guests including a former Ukrainian president, ambassadors and big names from business, politics and the media gathered on Dec. 15 for the Ukrainian Catholic University’s annual charity evening.

After enjoying cocktails with the evening’s guests of honor, who included Patriarch of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Sviatoslav Shevchuk and University President Bishop Borys Gudziak, attendees took part in a silent auction of artworks to raise money for the university.

According to the organizers, the event raised over Hr 12 million ($429,000), far over the target sum of Hr 9 million ($320,000).

The money raised will be used to support student programs, scholarships, and the development of the university’s campus for the university with more than 1,000 students.

Following the auction, the guests sat down to a festive dinner before hearing the keynote speech by Sean Patrick Lovett– who served as a volunteer for Mother Teresa, has worked with five Popes, headed the English-language Section of Vatican Radio for 40 years, and who has been professor of communications at several universities.

A musical entertainment program rounded off the evening.

The Kyiv Post served as media partner of the event.
