Ukrainian Fashion Week has been a grand function for the local clothing industry for 23 years. For the first time in its history, the event presented its collections with no audience or celebration — the shows were recorded and streamed online.

The change of format was made necessary by the COVID-19 pandemic and the ban on mass gatherings in Ukraine.

The shows ran from Feb. 5 to Feb. 8 at the huge Mystetskyi Arsenal gallery and other locations. More than 20 brands filmed fashion shows in the presence of journalists only.

Some designers chose to shoot and stream film-like presentations rather than hold the conventional runway shows with models.

Aside from the absent audience, another distinctive feature of this year’s Ukrainian Fashion Week was the “no season” approach. What would normally be a platform for showcasing fall-winter apparel, was this time open to all types of clothes.

The lineup included both the promising beginners and some of the most acclaimed garment masterminds of Ukrainian fashion, including the labels Elena Burenina, ArtemKlimchuk, Frolov, Dzhus and others.

All of the runway shows and film presentations are available for free on the Megogo streaming service. Watch them here.
