Hundreds of Kyivans came to Pyrohiv, an open-air folk museum, on Feb. 29 to participate in the celebrations of the Butter Week.

The Butter Week, known in Ukraine as Maslyana or Masnytsya, is a week-long traditional holiday that marks the end of the winter. It is celebrated during the week before the Lent, which in 2020 starts on March 2 and lasts until the Orthodox Easter on April 19.

Celebrations of the Butter Week include eating bliny, thin Ukrainian pancakes, and burning down a scarecrow that symbolizes winter.
