Six years ago, nearly 100 people lost their lives during the EuroMaidan Revolution. They were slain by government forces commanded by the regime of Viktor Yanukovych, the corrupt, pro-Kremlin Ukrainian president eventually ousted in the revolution. Most were killed between Feb. 18 and Feb. 20, 2014.
This year on Feb. 20, the sixth anniversary of EuroMaidan, and thousands of people came to the memorial to the slain protesters at Kyiv’s Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Ukrainian for Independence Square) to pay tribute to Ukrainians killed during the revolution, known in Ukraine as the “Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred.”
Beams of light, dubbed “rays of dignity,” were projected into the sky to commemorate the Heavenly Hundred. Six years later, their killers have still not been brought to justice.
Demonstrators also marched to the presidential office to “remind” President Volodymyr Zelensky about the slain activists.
