Does your motherland know: Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra on Eurovision mission

With their mishmash of traditional folk and hip hop, the Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra is eyeing the top prize at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. Their song, “Stefania”, was written in 2021 by the band’s frontman, rapper Oleh Psiuk, as a tribute to his mother. But the song has taken on new meaning for the country nearing its third month of the war.
