A 41-year-old Belarusian man tried to cut his own throat during a court hearing in Minsk on June 1 after being told his family and neighbors faced prosecution if he did not plead guilty. Stsyapan Latypau was detained last year in a violent crackdown on dissent in Belarus after mass protests broke out over the disputed results of the presidential election.
