Ukrainians mark national Day of Unity in Kyiv

Nearly 30 years ago in 1990, during the waning days of the Soviet Union, Ukraine celebrated a Day of Unity to commemorate the unification of two short-lived Ukrainian states in 1919. Today, Ukraine still celebrates that event, often with human chains symbolizing the country’s unbreakable unity.
