Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn has said that the amount of maximum pensions should be reduced again.

"I think that it will be necessary to reduce these pensions again," he said on radio on Friday, while commenting on the restriction of the maximum amount of pensions following the adoption by the Ukrainian parliament of a law on pension reform.

"I’ll provide an example. MPs earlier had a pension of UAH 16,500. Now it has been halved, and it will total about UAH 7,440… I understand that it’s also a big pension, but at least one step has been taken. This will concern those who received the so-called pensions for special merits before the Ukrainian people. These are about 15,000 people… Thus, more than 260 million [hryvnias] will be saved," Lytvyn said.
