You're reading: Death toll from Sukhodilska-Skhidna mine blast rises to 28

The second miner injured in the July 29 deadly blast at the Sukhodilska-Skhidna coal mine in Luhansk region died in hospital on Friday, a source in Luhansk Regional Administration told Interfax-Ukraine.

The death toll from the explosion has now grown to 28.

As reported, a methane-air mixture explosion took place at the depth of 915 meters in the early hours of July 29 at the Sukhodilska-Skhidna coal mine run by the private JSC Krasnodonvuhillia. Twenty-eight people were working in this section of the mine at the time of the explosion.

Twenty-six people died at the scene. Two workers were hospitalized with numerous injuries. The first of them died in hospital on August 4.
